QRS Factory Tour
By Walt Reid

Just wanted to share my good experience with visition QRS in Buffalo. Use it if you want in the digest.

We are in Buffalo on vacation and HAD to go to QRS. It doesn't take very long but there are some very nice examples of automatic music instruments there. They even have a 1995 example of a new automatic music device that can be added to any piano (except a player of course) that gets its programming from compact disk. On the disk can be accompliment music so that you have the live piano playing (reproducer quality) and the backup orchestra sounds together on your nearby stereo. I like the old stuff but that was interesting.

Anyway, they took us back and showed the works of the place and we got to watch most of the piano roll production as they were doing it. They even have an outlet shelf for factory reject rolls. Anything that is still playable but not printed perfectly (words smeared, ID stamp weak, in short not perfect but playable) is available for $3.00 each (less box). The only way to get the deal is to go to the factory. I liked sifting through the racks so don't ruin a good deal by requesting them to send a reject roll by mail. Go see the factory! Rolls that you would buy to have the words printed for your houshold to read should be purchased out of the standard factory stock to assure quality.

If you want more details, let me know and I will write more about it.

Walt
