For many years there has ben a steam calliope at the Cuyahoga
Valley Festival near Akron, Ohio. It's a wood burner and has a well
worn, kind of beat up keyboard, that actuates notes with wires. Tuning
is done previous to a performance, but I forget if it was with a
wrench or a hammer! Andy Cohen, a fairly well known local folk
musician, is the guy who has played it. The steam and the smoke tend
to block the sky out quite a bit when playing, but they are a lot of
fun to hear.
