Announcement: End-of-Year Fundraising Drive In Progress

Our End-Of-Year Fundraising drive is in progress. If you haven't contributed to the operation of the MMD in the last 12 months, this would be a great time to contribute. There's a PayPal link at the bottom of each page on the website.

If you aren't sure when you last contributed, please send me a note using the contact form at the bottom of this page and I'll look you up in my records.

Thank you for your generous support!
Jody

P.S. While your support is needed and appreciated, you do not need to contribute to be a subscriber. If you have subscribed and aren't receiving your Digest, please use the contact form at the bottom of the page and let me know. Thanks!

Re: Of Organs and Band Organs
By Matthew Caulfield

(Hey, Robbie, how does it feel to be in Jody's shoes as editor?)

[ When I'm editing at midnight I make as many goofs as he does! RR ]

I agree with guest editor Robbie's suggestion that it might be wisest to think of running your theater organ from concert organ rolls rather than band organ rolls. Depends on the sound you want. I have a tape of someone's theater organ playing 165 band organ and Wurlitzer APP rolls, if you want to hear the result. Not bad at all but definitely band organ.

The main thing to know before making your decision as to roll type is roll availability -- unless you are content to play the same few tunes over and over.

As to pressure, band organs are blown at higher pressure than other organs generally speaking--around 10 inches water.

(Send me your address if you want the tape mentioned above)
