I like the Mechanical Music Digest name. In running many searches using
various engines, mechanical music turns up the most pertinent sites;
music box, get a few, but many more not pertinent; and automatic music,
none. This indicates to me that the term mechanical music is in more
general use, which will be particularly important when your WEB page is
done. Which brings me to your request for suggestions for your WEB page.
Can you include actual music from several types of mechanical music?
With a picture of the instrument? The Digest is pretty heavy into
keyboard and midi type mechanical music, but there are other areas of
mechanical music also. No secret that I would like to see music boxes
[ Editor's Note:
[ Robbie and I are researching ways to do this. I very much
[ want to see music boxes and even some of the more obscure
[ instruments represented. There are many interesting
[ if not obscure Web pages on the 'Net now. Consider
[ the "Bouteillophone":
[ I hope to provide links to interesting things like this. Between
[ my Web pages and MBSI's, we'll have 70 meg of disk to store images,
[ WAV files (audio), MIDI files (imperfect representations of audio
[ to be sure. MIDI fails to demonstrate the differrences between
[ _differrent_ music boxes playing the same tune!
What happened to all the Digest members who attended the MBSI Chicago
meeting. Surely some of you have some comments. We haven't heard about
any of the home tours. Does that mean you didn't enjoy them, ot that
you just haven't taken the time to send Jody a message. Same record,
differnt place. You get more out of anything when you contribute! I
have heard some of the Digest members commenting that there is little
about music boxes or roll and cob organs, etc. Whose fault is that?
Let's get some more strings running. Variety in the Digest articles will
increase the interest range, and we'll all learn something. I certainly
don't mess with pianos or pneumatics, but I know a lot more about how my
Ampico piano works, and appreciate the difficulties of restoration much
more than before the Digest. Share your knowledge and ideas on other
subjects also, please.
End of diatribe! Beatrice
[ I'll second the motion. Please send review articles of the
[ convention. Jody
