Kiwis, Kangaroos, and Reproducing Pianos
By Michael Woolf

I'm back on the list - my computer has been unwell and in traction. Answering Daniel Wilson about my Duo-Art Pedal-Electric: no, it isn't a "one-lung" model, but a full Duo-Art with expression for both theme and accompaniment,motor-driven, plus provision to disconnect all reproducing elements and play it as a foot-pumper. It's called a Pedal Electric Duo-Art -abbreviated to PEDA.There weren't a lot of these made - see "Restoring Pianolas" by Arthur Ord-Hume (pp. 64-65.) Arthur refers to the existance of these "probably only in Grand format" but this is an upright. (Incidentally you'll see a credit to me in the book, being thanked for allowing the author to visit my collection. However to the best of my knowledge Arthur hasn't yet graced these shores with a visit although there is a photograph of a barrel-piano with a cracked soundboard that looks suspiciously like a picture I took and sent to him for comment many years ago.)

To answer Daniel's other questionthe wording on the fallboard is just: "Steck Pianola Duo-Art." The piano needs a full restoration which is on the priority list but not at the top. Like many Kiwis I'm just awakening from my winter hibernation, ready to enjoy the Southetn summer.

Best wishes to all.
