Gulbransen Instruction Rolls Third Edition
By Jack M. Conway

Following up on Jim Canavan's comments in MMD 96.09.20 on Gulbransen Instruction rolls. Last night I got out the set I bought to go with my Gulbransen player and found the following.

The rolls are in QRS embossed black boxes. They have blue on white QRS tabs and gold colored metal flanges. The set shows use. The boxes are scuffed to the cardboard, Two rolls are in very good condition, one has a wrinkled leader and wrinkles at the end, and the last had a section about 4" by 6" missing which I replaced with new paper.

The labels say: Gulbransen The Registering Piano, Instruction roll No. 1, Teaching Proper Use of Accenting Levers, THIRD EDITION, Martin Method, Gulbransen - Dickenson Co. 1923. The box labels are faded but the roll labels are bright orange with black lettering.

The rolls have the following practice tunes:

No. 1, Teaching the Proper Use of Accenting Levers

My Wild Irish Rose
Sweet Adeline
Roll end stamped Copyright 1923

No. 2. Teaching the Proper Use of Tempo Lever

Sleep Little Baby
Old Black Joe
Harlequin
Lifes Garden
Nola
Roll end stamped Copyright 1923

No. 3 Teaching the Proper Use of Pedals

Dixieland
Serenata
Minuet
Roll end stamped Copyright 1923

No. 4, Teaching the Proper Use of Sustaining Lever

My Old Kentucky Home
Valse Parisienne
Last Hope
Roll end stamped Copyright 1923

Those of you who have six roll sets, how are the two practice rolls labled and what are the tunes on those rolls?
