I love the fresh viewpoint from Philippe Rouille' ("say rue-YEY") in
Digest 961017. He says that through our hobby we enjoy "Live Music
Created Mechanically."
The sound is real-time, created while we listen, and watch, and perhaps
even dance. This is much more fun than just hearing a sound from a
loudspeaker, and it bears kinship to the pleasures of a live
performance.
The next time I play the Gershwin piano rolls for visitors, I'll
explain that they will hear "a live performance, programed for us by
George!"
Perhaps they will understand....
