Removing/Replacing a Bass Bridge
By Michael Concordia

Jon, I decided to forego the epoxy route since this bridge was just too far gone and, as you said, it would be hard to tell where the pins were really supposed to end up. I finally was able to get the bridge off the soundboard by persevering with hot water and vinegar (as suggested by Bill Maxim, I think), 'grooving' the area at the top of the joint to concentrate the solution better and (here's the brute force part) grabbing the thing with channellocks and rocking it. A few splinters did come out of the soundboard but not too bad. It really isn't all that expensive (around $125) to have this particular bridge duplicated by Schaff, so I think I'll take the easier route. I do dabble in a bit of woodworking but drilling all those pin holes at the correct angle and location sounds a bit beyond my patience level. Thanks everyone for their advice.
