Source for Mechanical Musical Santa Claus
By Jim Edwards

The modern mechanical musical collectable was introduced several years
ago by a company indeed called "Mr. Christmas". They have officers in
New York but their merchandise these days comes from China by way of Hong
Kong. One can contact them at:

    Mr. Christmas, Inc.
    5445 Raines Road
    Memphis, TN 38115

    1-800-4MR-XMAS (toll free, U.S. only)

(Was not this near or the site of Aeolian Player Piano factory years ago?).

This company for the last few years has been coming up with MODERN
ADAPTATIONS OF OLD FASHION DISC MACHINES.

They currently are selling a large music box called Santa Claus Factory
which is really a piano roll factory with real "star gears" to play the
musical notes as punches come up in the roll! Neat stuff! They also
introduced last year another endless punch roll machine called a Holiday
Box. It looks sort of weird (old fashion phono Morning Glory horn with
a box underneath that you can see the roll moving). Sort of looks like
a cob organ box taken in its entirety.

The price on these machines which are available all all Walmart stores
in the U. S. as well as other department store discounter is about $70
for the Holiday Box and about $90 for the Santa Claus Factory. The
machine who are seeking I believe was around $40 when it was introduced.

I hope this information will help you. For all the people who have have
contributed ideas about how to get the John Q Public interested in old
mechanical instruments how about setting up a small display of your old
music boxes during the Xmas season at your local Walmart near where the
new mechanical boxes and dolls are being sold and talk Walmart into
promoting your visit by way of the local paper.
