Strange Storytone Piano
By Dan Armstrong

Greetings, This is not a request regarding a player piano, but one out
of the annals of strange and innovative late 30's-early 40's modern.

I just acquired a 1939 Story & Clark Storytone, serial # 153152, voiced
by RCA Victor. It has no soundboard; it's strung similar to a normal
spinet, with a harp and "floating" bridges with acoustic pickups for
the amplification system. Originally, it had a bench with it which
incorporated a record player and radio made by RCA. That part was
missing, it may have been sold as an end table or something; I don't
know.

If there is anyone that has any information on one of these things
I'd appreciate it. I've seen a lot of different and strange pianos,
but this one takes the cake.

I'm planning on restoring it to original, possibly minus the tube-type
amplifiers. They may be replaced with solid state since vacuum tubes
are difficult to come by.

Thanks,
Dan Armstrong
