George Murphy Collection Auction
By Matthew Caulfield

I wrote the auctioneer Kenneth S. Hays & Associates, Inc.
(, which is going to auction off the George Murphy
collection, to inquire what band organ rolls were among the "hundreds
of music rolls" advertised to be auctioned. I received this piece of
uninformative boosterism in response:

"Yes......100s. Many are new and never been removed from box.
Come join us in Louisville for the auction. Preview for general
   public: Friday, April 3 from 1 to 6 p.m."

Well, I doubt the kind of band organ rolls I am looking for would still
be in their original boxes. Usually they show the effects of decades
of hard playing and require some real detective work to identify. Does
any MMD'er really know what is being offered in these 100s of rolls?
Is anyone going to the auction?
