Who "Plays In" a Perfect Roll ?
By Philippe Rouillé

Andy and Chris Taylor (Tempola Music Rolls) wrote in the 98.03.09 digest:

Sure. Think of Robbie Rhodes.

> I have met enough of them to know that they don't take well to criticism.

Hello, Robbie ?

> But I have yet to see anyone sit down and "play in" a perfect roll.

I think I have.
Hello Robbie Rhodes ?
Don't you think you can do it ?

I remember seing Robbie playing a roll on his piano, then playing by hand
himself, then pedalling again and so on. Difficult to know when it was the
machine and when it was Robbie playing, if you did not look at him !

Remember it is easier for a pianist to imitate a player piano than to make
a very good roll letting you think a real pianist is playing !

Best regards,

Philippe

[ Its a shame Robbie isn't editing this issue of the Digest.
[ I know for a fact, though, that Robbie does edit his own
[ hand-played work at the computer before committing it to perforated
 [ paper...
