What Are We Here For?
By Andy Taylor

Hi Gang, I cannot answer why "we" are here, because that is a broad
and sweeping statement I don't know how to answer. However I can tell
you why Chris and I are here.

We are here to learn, first and foremost, about arranging music rolls
and raising my level of craftsmanship of my favorite hobby and -- soon
to be a full time venture -- automatic pianos and supplying music for
them. Not intending to brag, but both have improved greatly through
the advice of many here, notably George Bogatko, Craig Brougher, John
Tuttle, Bob Berkman, Art Reblitz and many others who have taken the
time to generously give advice.

I will not hesitate to ask a question if I am uncertain on something.
Usually the answer or answers will be in my mailbox the morning
following my posting.

If I need player action parts chances are very good someone here will
have what I need. This proved to be quite true when I posted a need
for an Ampico upright action that was scaled to the Foster piano which
Chris and I are restoring. I located one the next day.

Without this forum, it would be difficult if not impossible to finish
some of these jobs. The speed of electronic mail is certainly hard to
beat. I am also happy to say that we have been able to supply a few
player actions to the rebuilders who need them. The gutted pianos will
play again !

Even though we are not into music boxes or phonographs, we respect and
read the postings regarding that thread with great interest.

We are here to meet people with similar interests and ideals. You are
never too old to learn something, and everything you do will show it,
whether it is a player roll or a piano. It is always gratifying to
apply the advice and stand back and look at the finished job and say,
"Wow! Are you sure _we_ did that??"

Best Regards
Andy & Chris Taylor
