Music Box - Etouffoirs Aspiraux
By Dan Wilson

[ Ref. MMD 980616 ]

Janie Kerns, Your musical box is most likely Swiss. As for the
French influence, the region of Switzerland where the majority of
cylinder musical boxes were manufactured is immediately adjacent to
the eastern border of France, and is/was French speaking.

There was a modest musical box industry in France, centered in the
eastern part of the country adjacent to Switzerland, and any box made
in France {with the tune card still attached) would certainly mention
its place of manufacture. There were also some distinct differences in
detailing of the movements and cases that generally make Swiss and
French boxes identifiable.
