Passport Designs & "Encore" Purchased
By Ron Yost

Hi friends! Many people here use the notation program "Encore" by
Passport Designs. Passport went bankrupt not long ago, but their
assets have been purchased by G-VOX Entertainment, so their products
will apparently survive in one form or another. G-VOX is also
committed to supporting previous customers of Passport Designs.
(Whew! :)

Further info can be found at the G-VOX website:

    http://www.gvox.com/

For those without web access, this is the 'statement' regarding the
situation from the G-VOX website:

  PASSPORT DESIGNS LIVES!

G-VOX Entertainment has acquired Passport Designs,
Inc. of Foster City, CA. - one of the leading brand
names in music software for amateurs and
professionals. G-VOX acquired Passport in U.S.
Bankruptcy Court against a rival bid submitted by Coda
Music Technology, Inc., and the announcement of the
acquisition was made July 31, 1998, by Nathaniel
  Weiss, President of G-VOX.

The dynamic combination of G-VOX and Passport now
positions G-VOX as one of the country's leading
developers and manufacturers of music entertainment,
composition, and education software. G-VOX plans to
co-market Passport products alongside its existing
G-VOX line and capitalize on the combined sales and
marketing strength, in order to expand the
distribution of both brands. Also, G-VOX plans to use
Passport's proprietary music software engines to
expand its own product line; and expand the level of
  interactive music composition, entertainment and
education services it offers on its website.
Passport's desktop music publishing products are some
of the most widely used and well-respected in the
industry, including Encore, Master Tracks Pro, and
  MusicTime.

G-VOX plans to continue making the current Passport
products available on an ongoing basis, and will
reinstate tech support for Passport as soon as
possible. G-VOX has every intention of continuing and
supporting the Passport line, and expanding on it in
future development. Please be patient while we restore
the quality of Passport products and service to which
you are accustomed. We'll keep you posted. If you'd
like to be added to our mailing list and be kept
abreast of future Passport developments, please send
  an e-mail to passport@gvox.com

[ I've used "Master Tracks" sequencer/editor by Passport Designs for
[ over ten years, and I prefer it over Cakewalk for music roll files.
[ I'm happy to hear that the products will be supported. -- Robbie
