Making the "Killer" Duo-Art Test Roll
By Tim Baxter

Hi folks:

I'm in the process of making a "killer" test roll for my restored
Duo-Art (scheduled for delivery November 21, 1998 - yahoo!!).

First, how many repetitions per second should each note be able to
handle at, say, Tempo 70 (assume only one note being played at a time)?
The repetition test on the standard Duo-Art test roll seems to be far
below what the instrument is likely capable of.

Second, (and as to expression coding) how many notes should be capable
of sounding simultaneously at different expression levels? - i.e.,
imagine I have coded 8 notes to strike simultaneously at accompaniment
level "0" - I would think that these might not play. However, they'd
probably all play at accompaniment level 8. Anyone care to offer a
(detailed) opinion on the maximum # of notes that should be capable of
sounding at each expression level (I would guess that if some "hard",
accurate numbers could be arrived at for this, it would be a good way
to test the accordion pneumatics).

Imagine a chart:

   Level 0 - maximum 3 notes
   Level 1 - maximum x notes
   Level 2 - maximum x notes

and so on up to level 15.

Of course, I'll do tests of chords striking at each level, up to
level 15, both them and accompaniment. And compare the different
levels.

Anyone else have any good ideas at creating a roll that can put a
Duo-Art through its paces better than the standard Duo-Art test roll?

Respectfully,

Tim Baxter
