Half Duo-Art In 1920 Steinway
By John Johns

Tim Baxter asked:

> Is it true that Duo-Arts were only placed in Steinways subsequent
> to 1925?

No, it cannot be true. My upright Steinway (style S) Pianola has a
half Duo-Art player action. The serial number of the piano is 204824
which places the year of manufacture as 1920 and this appears to be
confirmed by the signature of F. Porter on the keybed dated March 5
1920. The serial number on the Duo-Art stack is 107055. Does anyone
know if this number gives the date of the action?

Best wishes for the Holiday Season.

Regards
John Johns
