Record: "Golden Organ Collection"
By Jeremy Brice

Re: Records That Should Never Have Been Made

The recent postings on 'interesting' (or should that be downright
awful!) mechanical music recordings reminds me of two CDs that
I bought in Belgium last year.

If anyone ever comes across "Golden Organ Collection Volumes 3 and 4"
published by G&G Music of Holland (catalogue numbers R.G. 35.55 and R.G.
44.39 respectively) then buy them because they are so bad they are
brilliant!

These discs feature a 105-key semi-electronic Decap 'Diamant' which
I presume has been worked on by Verbeecks at some point as their name
is on the front. The first ten tracks of volume three show the organ to
be competent, if not outstanding. From there on, and for the whole of
volume four, it suddenly sprouts what sounds like a rather drunken
accordionist, drummer and acoustic bass player who attempt to busk
along with the organ. Staying in tune or in tempo with the organ
appears to be the last thing on their minds!

These CDs are best played after a heavy night on the beer for maximum
appreciation. In their defence though, I did only pay 185 Belgian
Francs (around 3 GBP or 5 USD) each for them, and they have given me
a good laugh (or cringe, depending on how sober I was).
