Value of Franklin Ampico Upright Piano
By Douglas K. Rhodes

Greetings: On behalf of a client who wishes to buy a restorable
reproducing piano, I viewed today a Franklin upright Ampico,
manufactured in 1920. The owner is not committing himself to an asking
price, but is entertaining offers. If any of you with recent market
experience with reproducers could advise me as to a reasonable value
for this instrument (described below), I'd appreciate it.

Height 54-3/4", mahogany case (with bench), the usual nicks, scratches,
alligatoring, but no veneer damage or gouges; near-perfect ivories.

Piano action is all original, needs typical minor repairs and regu-
lating, nothing serious; fairly nice tone, board and bridges good,
tuning is stable.

Ampico action re-tubed recently, competently with good materials,
otherwise all original; Ampico does play, all notes work, but
expression controllers and roll guide pneumatics are nearly all frozen.

In general this looks like a very nice candidate for pneumatic action
rebuilding. It will be sold with approximately 30 Play-Rite rolls.

Any ideas what it's worth?

Thanks
