Apollo Art-Echo Rolls Similar to Ampico Rolls
By Michael Swanson

Years ago I remember reading somewhere that you could tube an Apollo
Art-Echo player to play Ampico rolls. They claimed that the two
systems are very close in design and operation. Is this true, are
the two systems really that close?

If the answer is yes then it would seem that transferring rolls from
one system to another should be fairly easy. Could a music roll
editing program be used to turn a scanned image of an Art-Echo roll
into an Ampico roll by re-arranging the expression tracks? If this is
possible it could make a library of new Ampico rolls available.

I have seen some nice popular rolls lately on Art-Echo by artists
such as Pete Wendling, Zez Confrey and others. I'd love to have Ampico
rolls of some of these. Is this possible?
