Music on a Web Page
By Bill Mintz

Hi MMD'rs - I haven't written for a while, but I have been greatly
enjoying reading the Digest. You folks have helped me with a couple
of needs in the past, so I'm asking for help again. I'm working with
a friend to design a Web Page; he is helping me with the technical
computer stuff, and hasn't found a good method of putting musical
selections from an audio CD on to the Web Page. He is using an
Apple 7600 and wanted to use QuickTime, but the files were huge, so he
told me about MPEG which offers relatively small files that maintain
CD quality sound. The problem though, is that he can't find an MPEG
editor that allows him to record only a portion of a CD track. If any
of you have leads or other options for recording these snippets of
music, please let me know.

Regards and thanks in advance.

[ The question you raise is timely, since I've been experimenting with
[ a program which does exactly what you want. However, its not a
[ Macintosh program. The program is called "Audio Catalyst" and is
[ capable of reading a CD, obtaining an index of the CD from the CDDB
[ database on the 'Net, reading the audio tracks digitally, and
[ converting the digital audio to MP3. It has a section which allows
[ you to convert only a section of a WAV file. Of course, the
[ alternative is to edit the WAV file first using the WAV editor of
[ your choice and then convert the file to MP3. I don't know of any
[ editor that will edit the audio content an MP3 file (or a Real
[ Audio for that matter) while the file is in a non-WAV format.
[ Does anyone else have information on this ?
 [
[ For what its worth, Audio Catalyst can be downloaded from:
