Cold Liquid Hide Glue
By Mike Knudsen

As I posted a couple of Digests ago*, Franklin's "Titebond" brand of
cold liquid hide glue is strong and does not creep under shear, at
least in the short run. I've also used it for furniture repairs, but
only within the last two years or so. Let's hope someone who used it
ten years ago can comment on how well it holds up, and also whether the
joints are as easy to soak and break apart for re-rebuilding.

It seems to my observations that it does fill gaps well, and shrinks
less than white glue. But could it equal hot glue in this respect
(vital for keeping an airtight seal)? That depends on whether it
hardens by losing moisture, which I can't speculate on.
