BluesTone Music Rolls Web Site
By Rob DeLand

After months of tweaking and agonizing, I am pleased to announce a
new web site for my BluesTone Music Rolls (recuts of 88-note ragtime,
blues, jazz and popular rolls; plus Ampico, Duo-Art & Welte (Licensee)
reproducing rolls, XP expression rolls, and "A" nickelodeon rolls).
Please take a look at:

  http://www.bluesrolls.com/

To make more of an initial splash, I have also reissued several rolls
which have been out of stock for quite some time. Many fine rolls by
Luckey Roberts, Cow Cow Davenport, James P. Johnson, and "Fats" Waller
are now back in stock, in addition to rolls by Scott Joplin, Jelly Roll
Morton, Lemuel Fowler, James Blythe, and many other artists in whom
I've always had a special interest.

I have tried to make it more than just a forum for me to sell my stuff.
I have included color scans of (almost) all of the original roll labels
I've reissued, and a special study which explores my special interest
in Melville Clark and Apollo expression rolls. The latter includes
technical details, an illustrated survey of all known XP expression
roll label types, and information on Melville Clark himself.

I also went out of my way to create as useful a "recommended reading"
list as possible, by including illustrations and descriptions of what
I consider to be the most important books on automatic musical
instruments and related musical topics. Similarly my "links" page
highlights some of my favorite sites and why I think they're worth
your time to visit.

As time permits (read "after my next recutting list is ready, and
probably after the holidays"!) I intend to expand on these concepts and
provide information on other topics I care about, such as various
interesting roll labels and artists, both old and new. I have some
neat stories about Cow Cow Davenport and Seger Ellis, for instance,
which I look forward to sharing with everyone.

I hope you find something of interest, and I welcome any suggestions
or criticisms.

Thank you,

Rob DeLand

PS: Please note that I am switching to a new email address:

  <rdeland@bluesrolls.com>

My previous address <rdeland@owc.net> will remain active for a while,
but I intend to phase it out.

Also please don't use another older, obsolete address which I stopped
using last Spring: <rdeland@wwa.com>. That account was terminated last
April, but I recently learned that it still took messages without
bouncing them! If you sent me an email at owc.net, that's why you
didn't get a response.
