Biggest Concert Organs in the World
By Wolfgang Brommer

Dear friends, please let us know all the details you know about
the biggest concert organs in the world. Of course I mean the
street organs, not the church organs.

We already know of the organ of Mr. Barth in Bonn, Germany, with 127
keys. Are there some others around the world which may be bigger?
The most pipes? The most keys? The most stops? The most weight?
And so on.

It would be our interest to learn more about other big organs. As
you perhaps know, we restored this year the big organ of Mr. Barth
and we heard it at the organ festival in Waldkirch.

I wish all of you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year 2000.
I hope to meet all of you in the next years.

Yours
Wolfgang Brommer, Master Organbuilder
Jaeger & Brommer Orgelbau, Waldkirch

[ Music arrangement flexibility grows with the number of keys; I know
[ of a 125-key scale used by Mortier and possibly others. But the
[ power -- the sheer intensity of sound -- of a fairground organ comes
[ mostly from the quantity of pipes: think of the "Dubble Ruth" organ
[ at Utrecht, and White's giant 89-key Gavioli in the UK. (The
 [ calliope doesn't count! ;) -- Robbie
