Don't Judge a Piano From a Picture
By Kim Bunker

Hi again, Kim Bunker here. To save anyone embarrassment (in rebuttals)
of my letter the other day [000210 MMD] I think all of you should get
the entire story. I've always been told Humility is a Virtue, so
here it goes.

In my last letter I made some aggressive statements to somebody in the
Player Piano Ring for what I thought was the loss of a player piano
sale. This is because of what a customer of ours was told after they
sent some pictures I e-mailed them, which they forwarded on to this guy
in the Ring, of our refurbished Ampico upright consigned to us for
$7,000.00.

By the way, we didn't restore this piano. It was done some years ago
by someone else. All we were to do was clean it up.

The crux of the conversation was the Player Piano Ring guy said that
the instrument, from the standpoint of the pictures only, looked like
a unrestored player that was worth $1,200 to $3,500 or less, which
would be true if that were the case.

But the player was restored and the piano was refinished. I clearly
stated this to the customer and said the piano strings were original
good condition and the expression pneumatics are to be recovered again
because the (black) cloth that was used was too heavy and slowed down
the expression.

This fact was not conveyed to the other party in the Player Piano Ring
when he sent the pictures. Hence not being fair to that person, and
now giving the whole scope on this situation, I retract my statement
made in my last letter.

It's always great to know as much information about anything when
dealing on the Internet, with all parties concerned. This way
everyone will have a better understanding of the items purchased from
such a distance away.

Kim Bunker
