Limitations of MIDI
By Stephen Kent Goodman

Art Reblitz wrote, "I can only attribute this to the serial MIDI
data stream getting constipated."

Using an old version of Cakewalk as a program of origination, and
played through an Octet controller which is connected to a reliable
magnet to pneumatic interface, it has been my experience that not only
is NO data lost, but all notes are right on the tempo. Please refer
to the Blessing Robot Band, which sometimes uses 4-handed piano
arrangements, percussion, and register/expression controls without so
much as a late beat.

The tremendous accuracy of and ease of getting music into an instrument
is my only interest in MIDI. To my knowledge, no one has scored
directly on MIDI for as large of instrument (in terms of number of
notes played/figure controls, etc.) as I have and my comments are based
on my actual experience. And all along I was looking for shortcomings!

Cheers,
Stephen Kent Goodman
