QRS Roll Artist Pseudonyms
By Bob Billings

Just catching up on the last few weeks of MMD. Andy Taylor asked in
the 000504 MMD about piano roll artists with assumed names. Here is
what I have.

 - Osborne & Howe were always pseudonyms, usually used by J. Lawrence
Cook for his 4-hand arrangements.

 - Ted Baxter was a pseudonym, used by most of the "real" QRS artists
for traditional and ballad style numbers.

 - Jeff Watters was a pseudonym. Often used with Harold Scott (also
a pseudonym) in 4-hand arrangements.

 - Dick Watson was real, but his name was actually Richard Wolfson.
He was the chief QRS arranger from 1963 to 1968.

 - Armand Muth was real, but he didn't record with QRS. He worked
first for U.S. Music, then Billings Staffnote, and then his own
Playrite company in Milwaukee. His only QRS roll was a re-issue
on their Celebrity series.
