Rebuilding Standard Pneumatic Co. Air Motor
By Julian Brook

I need advice from the experts. Haven't been on for a while; been
restoring instead.

The bottom action of my Standard Pneumatic player is now working fine
and I am starting on the top. The air motor is in sorry but restorable
shape. I started taking it apart and found that the five pneumatics on
the Standard motor have gasket material on them, and are apparently
fastened to the motor by the glued gasket material.

There is a square gasket around the opening and a strip that I would
guess is just for a spaces near the top. I expected, from the book,
that the pneumatic would be glued directly to the motor box. Which
way should I restore it?

Someone had done a job on this motor before. The cloth on the
pneumatics were not all the same width, so a couple of them would not
open far enough for the crankshaft to turn. There were shims under
the fingers to correct this!

By the way, the cloth is currently thin rubber cloth, like on the small
pneumatics. Is that okay or do I want heavier motor cloth?

Much thanks.

Julian Brook
