Self-Playing Trumpet
By Patrice Rabby

Hello everybody, At first, excuse me for my English; I'm French from
Normandy (remember June 1944!).

I have built an organ with 32 wood pipes and electric blower; the chest
and bellows [pneumatics] are traditional. I made a MIDI controller
using an 8051 micro-controller, and an old PC in a nice wood box gives
the MIDI files. All this stuff is okay and works very well. I'm proud
of this!

Now I want to improve it. I would like to do an automatic trumpet on
it. The electronic interface to command the keys is done, but I need
some ideas to control the pressure, like an artificial mouth. All
comments or Internet links are welcome.

Thanks a lot

[ Whew! A mechanical artificial mouth (and lips!) for the trumpet --
[ that's a challenge! Could the diaphragm exciter of an automobile
[ Italian air horn be adapted? Or maybe one could use the "Honecker
[ Horn", a sort of trumpet with vibrating reeds popular in Europe
[ in the 1970s. I guess it was sold for making noise at New Year's
[ parties, but when Erich Honecker, the boss of Communist East Germany,
[ spoke in public, it was frequently heard in chorus ! ;-)
