Transporting a Vorsetzer to Public Performances
By Spencer Chase

Another way to move a Vorsetzer

I recently brought my Welte Licensee Vorsetzer to the MBSI national
meeting for a demonstration of the MIDI valve system. I checked
out all of the possible ways to transport it and they were all very
expensive and would take forever and guarantee nothing, except for one:
air freight was the cheapest, the fastest and the least damaging.

The machine arrived in perfect condition and returned home in like
condition. There was damage but that was done at the hotel, probably
by a bussing cart.

I had to make a custom case that was a heavy plywood platform, with a
welded aluminum cover, and the machine was strapped inside with velvet
blankets as padding.

So if you ever need to move something like this be sure to check out
air freight. I put it off until the last, thinking it was going to be
the most expensive. Another advantage is not having your precious
cargo rattle in a truck for weeks and get moved on and off dozens of
times and stored in all kinds of nasty locations along the way.

What did it cost? For a 380 pound box it was just about $400 each way,
including delivery and pick up to the loading dock of the hotel.
Nothing went wrong at all.

Best regards,
Spencer Chase
