Lee S. Roberts, Piano Roll Artist
By Tom Lear

Hi All, Can anyone provide some biographical and rollographical
information about Lee S. Roberts? I have searched the MMD Archives
and the web, and find virtually nothing.

Some of my favorite rolls are his opera transcriptions, e.g.,
"Favorite Strains From The Bohemian Girl", "Pagliacci", "Madame
Butterfly". Roberts does a great job of getting some good dramatic
effects on these 88-note rolls. They are a lot of fun to play and
listen to.

Some rolls are dated 1918. I am not clear on whether this is the
date the roll was actually cut or may be a copyright date for the
roll makers' label.

Thanks,

Tom Lear
