Edit Organ Music Rolls Before Recutting Them
By Jeff Alterman

In response to Tim Trager's letter, I have heard plenty of errors
on the 66-key B.A.B. rolls while listening to the Gebrueder Bruder
"Elite Orchestra Apollo" organ at Coney Island, on the B&B Carousell.
It isn't uncommon to either hear a wrong note or a note that simply
doesn't belong there.

It is imperative to listen to the original roll carefully and try to
find and fix the errors before the rolls are recut. Then you'll have
music that will sound good because the errors were corrected before the
rolls were recut.

I'm not sure how the mistakes wound up on the rolls in the first place.
In some cases it may have simply been a slip of the pen or an oversight
when the roll was originally edited.
