Use Leather for Heavy Duty Bellows

I was surprised at the note in yesterday's MMD questioning whether
leather is strong enough for use in vacuum pumps.  I have always
understood that leather is the material of choice for heavy-duty pumps:
good cowhide or the leather par excellence, if you can get it --
kangaroo!
