Stored Binary Control Data & Jacquard Loom
By Keith Reedman

An even more minor correction to Randolph Herr's letter on the subject.
The original Jacquard loom, as invented by Joseph Marie Jacquard of
Lyons, France, in 1801, was used to weave damask fabric, not to make
lace.

Only later (1824 in Lyons and 1834 in Nottingham, England) was the
Jacquard method adapted to program lace machines which twist threads
together rather than weaving them.
