Perfection Music Box
By Bill Wineburgh

[ In 040323 MMDigest Denise Goodson asked for information about
 [ her music box.

Hi, Denise, Your Perfection disc musical box was manufactured here
in the USA in Jersey City, New Jersey, by the Perfection Music Box
Company. They went in business in 1897 and moved to Newark in early
1900.

They are known for their unusual dampering system. It consists of
felt discs sandwiched between the steel star wheels. While it does
work, it wears out with use and replacing the dampers is a time
consuming task. This made the Perfection less than perfect (yes,
the pun!) and they were not sold in large numbers.

The discs are either steel or zinc. The steel may be copper coated
which gives it a brass look.
