Internet Auction Fraud
By Matthew Caulfield

Reginas A Hot Item On eBay For Fraudsters

The MBSI website received today a query about a Regina disc music box
being sold on eBay. That auction (# 6520898317) by a MBSI member was
completely legitimate. But because at least two other people contacted
the buyer informing him that they were offered "second chance" on the
same item, the buyer put a stop-payment order on his check.

Because of the fraudulent actions of a certain "6259William" in trying
to work a scam off auction # 6520898317, the buyer now has to straighten
things out with the seller, as well as informing the people who
contacted him that they were being victimized by the "second chance"
offer.

In the process of checking eBay for this affair, I noticed another
Regina auction (# 6163112033) that looks highly suspicious, having all
the earmarks of the fraudulent one that attempted to play off the
legitimate Meekins auction last week: a brand new seller in the UK with
no eBay history, and a private auction with bidders names concealed.
