Unknown Welte System
By John McClelland

Greetings all, Hubert Kennedy remarked that he has a Bush & Lane with
tubing that is different from the Autopiano diagram. My experience
with several uprights that had the Licensee system installed has been
that they can (and more than likely will be) different.

The most obvious place of differences is at the transposing block,
usually located on top of the spoolbox. The expression and control
valve tubing connections are pretty standard coming from the bottom of
the piano up to that block. After that, it gets tricky. Unfortunately,
there is no other tubing diagram that I know of that will address the
different ways of making the block work so it will play 88-note or
Licensee rolls.

The best thing to do is to make a sketch of what tubes connect to what
nipples, where they come from and where they go on the tracker bar. If
the tubing is ossified or absent, then starting out with a sketch and
figuring out what needs to remain connected when playing 88-note rolls
is the only (tedious and frustrating) way to go.

Sorry I can't be more comforting, but challenges are part of our
collective obsession.

Good luck,
John McClelland
