"Schnitzelbank" Humorous Song
By Thelma Hershorn

-- non-subscriber, please reply to sender and MMD --

I was twelve years old in 1936 when I started my first year of high
school (Grade 8) at North Toronto Collegiate, Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
I took German as a subject and my teacher, Mr. Klink, taught the class
the "Schnitzelbank Song":

  Ist das nicht ein Schnitzelbank?
  Ja, das ist ein Schnitzelbank,
Ist das nicht ein kurtz und lang?
Ja, das ist ein kurtz und lang.

And on and on in the manner of "Alouette, gentile Alouette."

It's been running in my mind and I thought I would bring it up on
good old Google. I'm amazed at all the discussion about this song.
It certainly goes back a long time, perhaps before the 1930s.

[ The earliest sheet music version published in USA that I've found
[ was published in 1906. The popular piano roll of "Schnitzel-Bank,
[ Humoristiches Lied", QRS WF6720, is from the early 1920s. See
[ also the article by Peter Neilsen, "Picture Rolls", at
