LP "Afternoon In Amsterdam" & "De Jupiter"
By Robbie Rhodes

The LP record you describe was recorded in 1957 and published by
Capitol Records, catalog number T10003, entitled "Afternoon In
Amsterdam, Barrel Organ Music Of The Kalverstraat". Many copies of
this disc are currently offered for sale at eBay and by old record
vendors. To my knowledge it was never issued in CD form, but only as
a vinyl LP disc.

The organ music heard is performed by a famous Dutch street organ
called "de Jupiter", originally a 68-key dance hall organ built by
Gavioli of Paris circa 1900 and later converted to street organ
service. Over the years the organ was expanded several times and
it is now one of Holland's most popular organs

"De Jupiter" is now owned by Haarlem Street Organ Museum and operated
by Kunkels Organ Foundation. See these pages at their web site:

A short audio file of "Spaghetti Rag", arranged by Jan Kees de Ruijter
and played by "De Jupiter", may be heard at

Although modern CD recordings of "Jupiter" aren't yet available, many
CDs of similar organ music are sold by the Dutch society Kring van
Draaiorgelvrienden (KDV), the "Circle of Friends of the Street Organs".
