John Deere Player Piano Finish
By Don Teach

No one answered the question as to how to paint a piano in John Deere
colors. I would prime the case with a product called Feather Fill
which would fill all the pores of the wood and can also fill in little
dings and dents. We use this under ebony finished grands that are
somewhat distressed.

I used to use automotive lacquer when it was available and I now use
enamels. The automotive paint store can recommend the correct paint
(finish) as well as sell you the correct colors. Our local paint shop
has paint chips for all the cars and tractors as well as some for
Fender guitars.

A clear coat or two on top of the color coats really makes it shine.
We use an automotive buffer with a sponge pad for high gloss and 3M
final coat polish. You can also use the above as a guide to paint
a piano black. For a satin finish we use Scotch-Brite Hand Pads to
knock off the shine followed with a light polishing by hand.
