Census of Band Organs, Why Not?
By Rob Goodale

I've been wondering whether anyone has considered assembling a band
organ census. If there are reliable estimates regarding how many
machines were manufactured, I think it would be a worthwhile project
to find out how many still survive, where they are, in what condition.
The data could be sorted by make, model, and serial number. If any
historic information is known, that could be included as well.

There are many organs out there that are hiding in storage somewhere
or owned by commercial entities that don't care about them. It would
be a real challenging task to track all of these down, but perhaps over
the next decade a reasonably accurate census could be assembled. I
think that I heard someone was hoping to do this but it never took off.
Does anyone know about such records? Is anyone ambitious enough to take
on such a project?
