Am I Allergic to My Nickelodeon?
By Mark Weyna

I'm having a strange reaction to one of my nickelodeons. If I play it
with the cabinet doors open or have it running while I'm in there to
tweak things, I find I get a lump in my throat, sort of like real bad
indigestion.

This machine was restored long ago, and then sat for some time. I
noticed this strange reaction after I bought it and was getting it up
and running again, specifically when I would use my mouth to draw
pneumatics closed, while adjusting the tambourine and such. At the
time I figured it was just dust or something.

It goes away after a couple hours, but I can bring it right back by
sticking my head in the machine and breathing. It must be a reaction
to the leather or to a mold or something, right? I have other machines
and have no problem with them. So it's not an environmental issue,
just a problem with this one piano.

Has anyone else come across this problem?
