Help with Newer Player Mechanism
By Jim Jelinek

Re: Getting more volume out of newer pump units

I have worked with these Aeolian newer players since most were new.
Two things can increase the electric pump volume.

There is a rod that moves in and out of the volume regulator at the top
of the electric pump. This has a set-screw collar on it that limits
it, through a metal fork coming down from the reservoir bellows. You
will see that, when the reserve bellows is closed, the rod can extend,
cutting off excess vacuum. You can adjust this collar to push the rod
in farther, and that will allow more vacuum to the player at all times.

The next problem I have found with these players is the stack shut-off
valve on the bottom left. Many times the pouch in this shut-off will
leak and not allow enough vacuum to draw from the pneumatic stack. You
can open up this unit and either replace the leather or simply re-seal
it with thinned rubber cement, followed by some talcum powder when dry.

These two fixes usually solve the problem, but you might have other
issues with this unit.
