COAA Arrangers' Seminar Series
By Wallace Venable

I am organizing a COAA Arrangers' Seminar Series (CASS) for the
benefit of our members who are interested in learning a bit about
producing their own music. This will be focused on the needs of
novices although all members are welcome to participate. Four
active arrangers have agreed to be speakers so far.

The CASS will meet at least twice a year at a COAA rally or meeting.
Sessions will last about an hour and a half, and will typically be
held the evening before the first day of our traditional rally organ
playing. Three short presentations or discussions will be included
in each seminar, each about 20 to 30 minutes in length.

Possible topics include organ scales, hand and computer marking
techniques and tools, software for arranging and/or punching, basic
musical theory, and arranging techniques such as key and voice
transpositions, transposing "missing notes" and sources for music
(piano sheet, scores, MIDI, etc.)

The first CASS session for 2011 is being planned for the June 10-12
Flag Day Rally at Gallipolis, Ohio. It will meet at the Gallia County
Convention and Visitors Office, 61 Court Street, on Friday evening
from 7:30 to 9:00 P.M.

The second session will be at the July 30-31 rally in Olcott Beach,
New York. Information will be posted as it becomes available.

No pre-registration will be required, but those interested in taking
part are asked to contact me, Wally Venable, by email at the address
below so that they may receive details as they become available.

COAA members should remember that rally invitations and information
will not generally be sent by mail this year, except through the
magazine. Rally information is available to everyone on
http://www.coaa.us/
