Wurlitzer Band Organ Rolls by David Stumpf
By Rob Goodale

It seems to me that the general consensus is that Mr. Stumpf's
arrangements are a cut above average. He certainly deserves credit in
his talents of arranging music around missing notes in a non-chromatic
scale, that isn't an easy thing to do.

I can only imagine what Dr. Kirschbaum would have said in my university
music theory classes. I have heard some music arrangements that were
absolutely terrible, not much short of noise: dissonant chords, intervals
that don't go together, melodies that are so far off from the mark that
they are barely recognizable. I have one roll that is so terrible that
I can't stand it.

On the other hand, some arrangements sound beautiful in spite that
specific notes a particular song would ordinarily be heavily dependent
upon are missing. I would like to suggest a re-issue of some of Mr.
Stumpf's work.
