Don't Pound the Player Piano Keys
By Gregory Filardo

Have any of you ever had to repair a piano action with Billings Flanges?
The brass tighteners which hold the hammers in place are usually
cracking, and pounding can case damage and break them off. If anyone
has had the job of replacing one in the middle of the action -- well,
it is not fun.

After a hundred years many action parts are brittle and misuse is not
recommended unless you are a technician wanting work. If the kids have
that much energy, then give them a paint brush and a can of varnish
remover and have them rescue a player piano and learn to refinish one!

I guarantee they will not feel like pounding on anything after the sting
of the paint remover on their fingers!
