Repairing Regina Model 35 Musical Box
By Michael Cain

I have recently acquired the Regina model 35 music box that sat in my
grandmother's parlor for decades and in my mom's basement for the last
20 years. I recall it playing when I was young, but it hasn't worked
for a long time. I've started learning about it and I'm _very_
carefully dismantling it to figure out what's wrong.

The cabinetry work is in excellent condition -- the double comb appears
to be in perfect shape and all of the parts of the changer mechanism
function smoothly when pushed and pulled by hand. (This box has the
solid metal changer drive train rather than the pulley-and-belt
arrangement; I'm not sure if that's good or bad). On the other hand,
while I was getting it ready to ship I found three small springs in the
bottom of the cabinet that look like pieces of the governor and control
mechanisms, and one of the big gears has a few stripped teeth.

Can people offer information about good starting points for this type
of effort? Other than the "send it to me or another professional along
with several thousand dollars" advice, which is no doubt good, but the
budget won't tolerate it! :^)

Thanks in advance,
Michael Cain
