German Pianola in Barossa Valley, South Australia
By Colin Mills

I've just brought home this beautiful Schrapel pianola from a couple
who had been unable to find a charity who would take it! I suspect it
is a rebadge of another German make, likely sold by Schrapels Emporium
in the Barossa valley, a historic German region near here in South
Australia. The piano plays beautifully, but there is a major air leak
somewhere. All the bellows were recovered 16 years ago and appear to
be sound.

There is an unusual arrangement of bellows under the keyboard on the
left side which, so far, I have no idea of their function -- perhaps
some sort of auto expression control? It seems to have an extra hole
in the tracker bar at either end of the 88 holes. If you have any
information, as to the piano and mechanism manufacturers, or a tech
manual, I'd love to hear!
