Book Music Punch & Die Specification
By Hans van Oost

Square or rectangular punches were used by Richter in Germany. I have
used a set of square or rectangular punches for making book music for
Ruth organs, and they play as well as books with round holes. The main
advantage is that punching is more accurate, punching is faster, and
the books do not lose strength, as long as you keep "dams" between the
punch holes.
