Seek Ampico "American in Paris" & "Rhapsody"
By David Sharpe

In 130209 MMDigest David Greene asked about two Gershwin rolls coded
for Ampico. There was an original Ampico of "Rhapsody in Blue" played
by Adam Carroll, Ampico number 66133. It is a condensation of the main
themes.

The Duo-Art roll of the full "Rhapsody" was converted and cut for
Ampico by Larry Givens on a roll he called 70947(D). (7094 was the
Duo-Art number of the first part of the Rhapsody.) Klavier must have
used the 40073 number when they issued that Ampico roll. My copy is
also Tempo 60 and the holes are a little closer together than the
Duo-Art roll which is Tempo 65.

I have original Ampico rolls of

  100815 American in Paris (Jumbo)
66133 Rhapsody in Blue - Adam Carroll

and I have the Givens issue of

70947(D) Rhapsody in Blue, played by Gershwin, from the Duo-Art set.

I would be willing to lend any of these for recutting.

The Klavier recuts of the two roll set of "American in Paris" (71123
and 71133) were on thin paper and easily fit on one spool playable by
most Ampico A pianos, so if you can find these recuts you can splice
them together to avoid rewinding and changing the rolls in the middle
of the piece.
